Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is in good health, exercises regularly and is within 25 lbs. of their ideal weight.   SmartLipo™ with VASER® LipoSelection® works well for those with areas of local body fat deposits that have responded poorly to diet and exercise.

Preparation

To prepare for the procedure patients need to review all medications with Serenity Creek Med Spa as they may need to discontinue use prior to the procedure.

Treatment Time

The average SmartLipo™ with VASER® LipoSelection® procedure takes 3-4 hours.  The time varies based on the number of areas the patient is having treated.

The Treatment

Dr. Martens performs the SmartLipo™ with VASER® LipoSelection® procedure on all patients.

On the day of the procedure, Dr. Martens marks the areas to be contoured and before pictures are taken to track results.  A sedative is given to relax and prepare the patient for the procedure.

During the procedure, a very small cannula (tube) containing a laser fiber is inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth delivering the laser’s energy directly to the fat cells.  This causes the fat cells to rupture and drain away easily.  The laser’s energy interacts with the dermis, as well, creating collagen shrinkage.  Because the laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, the SmartLipo™ patient experiences less bleeding, swelling and bruising plus recovery time is faster when compared to conventional liposuction.

The patient feels very little pain or discomfort during the procedure.  They may feel a minor stinging sensation and the impression of tugging of the skin, but these discomforts are minimal.

Recovery

Immediately following the procedure the patient is escorted to a recovery room while the local anesthesia begins to wear off, typically in less than an hour.  SmartLipo™ recovery does not involve the nauseating, disorienting recovery general anesthesia typically brings about—which many people consider the most difficult element of recovering from traditional liposuction.
Dr. Martens provides specific instructions for care prior to sending the patient home and a prescription for pain medication, if needed.  The patient also receives a compression garment which is important to maximize results. 

Directly after the SmartLipo™ with VASER® LipoSelection® procedure, patients experience minor bruising, numbness and swelling.  The bruising and numbness typically disappear within days, if not hours, of leaving the recovery room.  The swelling dissipates over time, usually within two weeks.

Downtime

Following the procedure, patients need to restrict activity for a few days.  Most patients return to their normal routine within three days of undergoing the SmartLipo™ with VASER® LipoSelection® procedure.

Results

Most patients see results immediately following the SmartLipo™ with VASER® LipoSelection® procedure. Improvements continue to be seen over the next six months following surgery.

The SmartLipo™ with VASER® LipoSelection® produces permanent results in the areas treated as the fat cells in those areas are removed.
