Laser Hair Removal

A laser focuses light energy into a narrow beam just a few millimeters in diameter, attacking the hair follicle without damaging surrounding tissue. Hair follicles that are in an active growth phase are destroyed by the energy absorbed from the laser light. This pinpointing method is important for achieving optimal results and avoiding skin damage.

After a sufficient number of treatments, you are likely to see little or no hair growth. But please keep in mind that no hair removal laser can permanently remove hair. Hormonal changes brought on by pregnancy or menopause–along with certain medications–can produce the growth of new hair.

Laser hair removal is now the preferred method for eliminating unwanted body and facial hair. Now you can finally shed the hassle of shaving or waxing and enjoy the freedom that comes with this laser hair removal.

Ideal Candidate

All patients with hair that has some pigment are good candidates for laser hair removal.

Preparation

Prior to treatment patients should:

-Avoid sun exposure
-Stop bleaching and plucking for two weeks
-Discuss with the Dr. their potential for cold sore or genital herpes outbreaks

Treatment

A Certified Technician performs the Laser Hair Removal procedure.  They clean and shave the area to be treated.

Recovery

After the procedure, the patient may experience bumps or redness that is easily treated by applying a cold compress.  Patients are advised to use sunscreen on the treated area for several weeks.  If additional hair removal is needed during the treatment regimen, only shaving is recommended.

Results

Full results are accomplished in a series of Laser Hair Removal sessions done monthly or every other month.  Hair that had previously been dormant may be in the growth stage for subsequent treatments.  Multiple sessions of Laser Hair Removal ensure that all hairs receive treatment in their active growth stage.

Typically four to seven sessions are needed to achieve 80% permanent hair reduction.

FDA Status

Laser Hair Removal is FDA approved.
