Laser Skin Resurfacing

SmartXide DOT Therapy™, or Dermal Optical Thermolysis, is a revolutionary laser skin resurfacing method using a Fractional CO2 Laser. Laser skin resurfacing diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage and tightens skin.

    Preparation

    Prior to undergoing DOT Therapy™, patients need to change their skin care routine to ensure maximum results.

    -No laser or IPL hair removal for one month prior to treatment
    -No Accutane, chemical peels or sun exposure two weeks prior to treatment
    -No retinols or glycolic one week prior to treatment

      Treatment

      DOT Therapy™ procedures are performed by Dr. Martens.   Before beginning the therapy, a topical numbing cream is applied to the skin to maintain patient comfort.  The topical numbing cream is removed after taking effect and the procedure is performed.

      After the procedure, cold compresses and cool air are applied to the treated area for ten minutes.   Dr. Martens then applies a topical anesthetic with healing aloe to reduce discomfort and aid in the healing process.

      Recovery

      Dr. Martens provides patients with specific instructions on skin care for the weeks following the treatment to ensure lasting results.  This includes the application of a hydrating cream to keep the skin moist and promote healing, avoiding exposure to the sun and the use of sunscreen.

      After leaving Serenity Creek Med Spa, patients may experience the look and feel similar to sunburn.  The sunburn effect disappears in 24-48 hours.  Three to four days following the procedure, the skin peels. Skin returns to normal within 7-10 days.

      Downtime

      No makeup can be worn for 3-4 days following treatment.

      Results

      Results are visible once the peeling and redness have subsided, typically less than ten days after the treatment.  The appearance of the skin continues to improve for six months and results are permanent.

      For most patients, a single session can produce the desired result.  For those with severe wrinkling or deep acne scarring, it can be beneficial to have more than one session.

      Results are permanent; however, natural aging still occurs.
